Annand Clams is situated in Conway, a small rural community in western Prince Edward Island, Canada. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, our Island is a prime location for some of the world’s best seafood, including the Atlantic bar clam.
Our 8,000 square processing facility is located close to the ocean and we pick up the day’s catch directly from the fishers who bring it to shore. The bar clams are processed at our plant within 24 hours of being caught. Because of our close relationship with our suppliers, we can guarantee the freshness of our product and the sustainability of the fishery.
The Annand Clams processing plant is provincially and federally inspected and licensed. Therefore, we sell our product domestically and internationally, continually introducing more and more consumers to delicious Atlantic bar clams.
Our processing plant uses a small batch approach so we can guarantee optimal products at all times. In fact, with the exception of cooking the bottled clams, which is done in a robot-looking pressure cooker, all of our processing is done by hand and with no preservatives. Our workers pay careful attention to each and every clam; in fact, to do the very best job, each worker has his or her own shucking knife which doesn’t get shared with others. It’s obvious that quality control is very important to us!
While the clam meat is the basis of our business, the rest of the shellfish is also put to good use, keeping our environmental footprint to a minimum. For example, fishers dump the discarded shells on their oyster leases so the babies have something solid to cling to. Others use crushed shells in their driveways. We also dehydrate and package clam bellies for use by fox breeders.
We welcome visitors to drop by and see what we are all about.
